SUMMARY:Robert Young Themed Walk Around Sturminster Newton
DESCRIPTION:Robert Young (1811-1908) served as Parish Constable in Stur during Victorian times. His chronicles give an insight into the superstitions\, squalor\, sanitation and sermonising in the town and how things changed during his lifetime. Young witnessed the celebrations for victory at Waterloo\, a man beaten to death in a bare-knuckle fight and the coming of the railway. His final notebook even refers to seeing a motor car.\nOur expert and entertaining guide for a tour of Young’s Sturminster will be David Fox\, whose family roots here date to 1690. His grandfather knew Robert Young.  David will perform some of Young’s and William Barnes’ dialect poetry as well as extracts from Robert Young’s unique writings. Duration 2 hours. Distance c.2miles.\nhttps://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/robert-young-walk-tickets-562404706617
