DESCRIPTION:A second Summer Season of Plays\, bringing rep theatre to the beautiful Marine Theatre\, on the sea front at stunning Lyme Regis\, again. Following the successful performances last year\, this year we bring you five popular plays from 23rd July to 27th August. For five weeks\, you can enjoy a company of professional actors bringing you popular plays\, each one a great evening’s entertainment. Get a season ticket for all five plays for £75 and save money\, plus members of the Marine Theatre get a 10% discount. \nThe first show is Ira Levin’s ‘Deathtrap’\, a murderously funny thriller made into a film with Michael Caine. With multiple plot twists\, this fiendishly funny play spirals into a deadly game of deception and betrayal. \nNext is Alan Ayckbourn’s ‘A Brief History of Women’\, a hilarious and gently touching comedy played out over 60 years. A tragi-comedy with all of Ayckbourn’s trademark theatricality\, this will be performed in-the-round. \nThe third play is ‘Strictly Murder’ by Brian Clemens\, a dark and frightening thriller set just before WWII. Lies\, subterfuge and murder make this fast-moving play a dark and disturbing roller coaster of bluff and double bluff. \nThen\, for her 250th year\, we present Jane Austen’s ‘Persuasion’\, adapted by Mark Healy\, which is set partly in Lyme Regis\, on the famous Cobb. This faithful yet inventive telling of the story blends Jane’s own life with that of her heroine\, Anne. \nThe season finishes with Noël Coward’s sublime comedy of manners ‘Fallen Angels’ which is a champagne cocktail of wit and charm\, described by the Lord Chamberlain as a ‘farcical comedy’ when it was first performed. \nAll plays start at 7.30pm and change midweek\, so if you’re in Lyme for a week you can see two plays. DESCRIPTION:The Villagers of Milton Abbas invite you to their 18th Century Street Fair Whatever the weather\, we hope you join in the fun of our Street Fair. We have tried to recreate the flavour of a country occasion using costume\, rural crafts\, entertainment and craft demonstrations. We expect to have a large number of stalls\, with food and drink venues throughout The Street and Lake Field. \nWe hope that you will join in the spirit of the day and spend your money freely in support of local good causes which also benefit the communities in the surrounding villages and our nominated external charity for this year. \nThe ancient town of Middleton was founded in 934AD and was clustered around the Benedictine Abbey\, nestling in the Delcombe Valley. King Athelstan\, grandson of Alfred the Great\, granted the old town a market and a fair. This fair took place on St Sampson’s Day. St Sampson was the patron saint of the ancient town and the Abbey. \nJoseph Damer\, Earl of Dorchester\, had this busy town removed in the 18th Century and in 1773 started to rebuild the present village in the next valley to make way for new landscaped estates\, including a lake on the site of the old town\, designed by Capability Brown.In 1973 the villagers recreated this country fair to celebrate the 200th anniversary of the building of the present day village. The Fair is on the last Saturday of July\, the nearest to the original St Sampson’s Day\, 28th July\, and is held every two years.The Milton Abbas Street Fair has now become an established event\, looked forward to by both residents and visitors alike. The 2025 Fair will be held on Saturday 26th July.

Beavers are nocturnal animals\, so we hope to catch a glimpse of these elusive creatures during our evening visit to the site.\n\nSteve has been working in conservation for 20 years\, with the last 15 years working for Dorset Wildlife Trust. As the dedicated beaver project officer\, Steve will teach you about the fantastic work happening here in the heart of West Dorset.\n\nIn February 2021 a pair of Eurasian Beavers were released into an enclosed site in West Dorset. Following a classroom based session to learn about beavers’ ecology\, Steve will take you from Kingcombe Visitor Centre to visit the project where you will experience first hand the transformation that has occurred in this unique habitat. Dorset Wildlife Trust has been working closely with partner organisations to monitor the beavers and learn more about their ecology. Steve will show you the changes to the site and you will have the opportunity to learn about their impacts on the hydrology and biodiversity.\n\nPlease bring any food for the evening. Due to the nature of the wetlands\, wellies are essential. Please be prepared for the weather (sunhat\, suncream\, warm clothing\, and waterproofs are advisable). For beaver watching\, please wear warm\, dark coloured (or camouflaged) clothing\, hat and gloves. Optional: binoculars\, camera\, food and water\, camping chair. We discourage the use of insect repellent\, so please wear long clothing and a hat for protection against insect bites.

Join us for a one day celebration of local and regional food and drink\, free to attend\, accessible for all (even the dog!) organised by multi-award winning eat:Festivals.
