SUMMARY:CHRISTMAS FAYRE
DESCRIPTION:Shillingstone will once again be welcoming Father Christmas and his ever- helpful Elves to the festively decorated Portman Hall on Sunday 24th November during our ever-popular annual Christmas Fayre.  Our special guest will be assisted by  committee member Ann Povey\, who will be donning her Elf uniform to act as the ‘Special Local Elf of the Day’ to oversee proceedings and to help Father Christmas hand out gift to the children. (She will also be making sure that the roof of the hall is clear for the reindeer to park the invisible magical sleigh on).\n\n \n\nThe event which is on from 12 noon until 4pm\, will also be hosting various Crafters and Gift Makers who will be there to offer a range of gorgeous goodies to suit all your Christmas needs. They\, like the real Elves in the North Pole\, have been busy all year round preparing their wares. While perusing the stalls\, you can take part in our brilliant main raffle or try to win a delicious Christmas Hamper. There will be the usual Treasure Hunt to find which mischievous Elf is hiding the Treasure this year\, as well a chance to adopt a lonely and sad Teddy Bear looking for a new and loving home. \n\nWhile you ponder which gifts to buy\, why not treat yourself to coffee and cake\, or maybe a light lunch as you soak up the festive atmosphere.  A free activity table will be provided for the excited children to enjoy as parents and grandparents catch up with friends while they await the results of the raffle.\n\nThe funds raised from the Christmas Fayre will be going towards the cost of resurfacing our much used car park\, so if you are planning on joining us\, we thank you in advance. If you require any information\, please call Kay Ridout on 01258 861345 / email kayrunyard@aol.com \n\n

SUMMARY:Lev's Violin
DESCRIPTION:Born with a beautiful sound but no name\, Lev’s Violin was valued as worthless. Although its origins remained a mystery\, many tales were attached to Lev’s Violin\, some true and some wonderfully untrue…\nOld and worn by its travels\, Lev’s Violin eventually broke a few years ago\, and the instrument became the subject of a book by Helena Attlee\, Lev’s Violin: An Italian Adventure\, which reached many thousands of listeners when it was broadcast as BBC Radio 4’s Book of the Week. \n\nThe violin has since been through an extensive restoration and\, having passed through the hands of countless musicians\, travelled continents and played the music of many cultures\, it is now in the possession of Greg Lawson.\n\nAn acclaimed violinist\, composer and conductor who has held principal and leading positions in most of the orchestras in Scotland\, Greg Lawson is joined by former Moishe’s Bagel bandmate and accordionist Phil Alexander for this special series of concerts. Follow the journey of Lev’s Violin and hear some of the music from its past\, from Bach and Arvo Part to Armenian and Macedonian music and Klezmer.

SUMMARY:Coming to England
DESCRIPTION:The UK tour of the stage adaptation of Floella Benjamin’s much-loved book\, Coming to England\, will head to Lighthouse Pool in February 2025. \n\nThis vibrant and energetic new play with music from Nicoll Entertainment and MAST Mayflower Studios tells Floella’s personal story of moving to England in the 1960s at the age of 10. Coming to England is an inspiring tale about determination and perseverance from which hope and triumph emerge during the Windrush Generation and is being adapted for the stage by David Wood OBE\, one of the country’s leading writers and directors of plays and musicals for children.\n\nAt the age of just 10\, Floella and her siblings left Trinidad and sailed alone to join their parents in England. But Floella’s excitement for her new life is short-lived\, with her family subjected to racism and intolerance in 1960s London. Guided by her mother\, and working twice as hard as her classmates\, Coming to England tells the story of how a young Floella overcame adversity and grew to become Baroness Benjamin of Beckenham.\n\nAges: 7+\nNotes: This production includes strong language and historically accurate racially abusive language
