SUMMARY:Death and Service – a talk by Richard Cooper-Wright
DESCRIPTION:There are more than 800 First World War graves in over 240 cemeteries and churchyards across Somerset. Each of the names on those gravestones has a story connected to it\, a story of family and of tragedy\, a story of life on the battlefield and of love on the home front. Richard will be uncovering the lives of those who are buried in and around Milborne Port\, commemorating those who gave their all more than a century ago. \nRichard has had a love for photography for more than 20 years\, building a long-lasting blog and rescuing antique photographs and cartes de visite from junk shops. A keen amateur genealogist\, he has drawn his two passions together\, researching First World War graves in the churchyards and cemeteries across the south of England. When not traipsing around muddy graveyards\, Richard has a penchant for real ale and folk music. \n \n\nAll talks take place in Church House on Bathwell Lane\, starting at 7.30pm and last for approximately an hour. We ask for a suggested donation of £2 per member & £5 per non-member.

SUMMARY:Moments
DESCRIPTION:Celebrating over 13 years of working together\, the critically acclaimed team behind the making of international hits The Nature of Forgetting and BIRTH opens up their precious notebooks and share how their magic works. By doing so the magic seems more impressive\, more real and more magical. Weaving Katherine Graham\, Guillaume Pigé and Alex Judd’s personal stories of becoming parents and reaching mid-life with theatrical imagination\, they unpick their creative bond\, re-evaluate success and make a new show exploring time\, fatherhood and grief.\n\nUltimately\, Moments is about attentiveness to; magic in the making of new work; poetry in our everyday; moment-by-moment existence; life as we live it.\n\n‘I give it (grandfather’s watch) to you not that you may remember time\, but that you might forget it now and then for a moment and not spend all your breath trying to conquer it.’ William Faulkner\, The Sound and the Fury\n\nThe development of this new project is funded by Arts Council England\, co-commissioned by London International Mime Festival\, and supported by The Point Eastleigh\, Shoreditch Town Hall\, The Lowry Salford and University of York. It will take place over a number of months in 2023 and 2024.

SUMMARY:Quimantú & Palida Choir The Surtierra Tour: When Music is Home
DESCRIPTION:In a unique project developed with Artsreach\, the iconic Anglo-Chilean band Quimantú is collaborating with the singers of Palida Choir to perform the Misa de los Mineros\, ‘The Miners’ Mass’\, composed by Mauricio Venegas-Astorga.\n\nFive decades ago Mauricio escaped from the Pinochet dictatorship in Chile and made the UK his home.\n\nToday\, through their Surtierra Project\, the band he founded seeks to break the stigmas associated with immigration caused by war\, persecution\, or poverty.\n\nThe concerts will result from workshops and rehearsals with local choirs in Dorset\, and will be\n\na tribute to those forced to leave their homeland\, often with sorrow.\n\nIn this context\, music takes on a profound meaning: healing\, uniting\, rooting\, and building community.\n\nThe Misa de los Mineros is “a captivating masterpiece that weaves the traditional with the contemporary through the beauty of heartfelt performances and arrangements”\n\nFelipe Arévalo (Universal Music)
