SUMMARY:Natural History Watercolour Workshop at Chesil
DESCRIPTION:Join us for this two-day natural history art workshop based at the Wild Chesil Centre. This friendly course is suitable for all levels from beginners to burgeoning artists\, in fact anyone who would like to improve their watercolour illustrating technique. The course is divided between time in the classroom and time outside on the Chesil and Fleet Nature Reserve looking for subjects to illustrate. SUMMARY:Green Carpets and Hidden Worlds: Discovering Mosses and Liverworts
DESCRIPTION:Mosses and liverworts are non-vascular plants which reproduce by releasing spores. Every tree at Kingcombe has a rich bryophyte cover\, a reflection of Kingcombe’s moist climate and sensitive management. \nIn this one-day introductory workshop you’ll learn about mosses and liverworts and how to identify them. Most of the day will be spent in the field\, with time to look at a range of species. \nJim White is one of the county’s top botanists. He played a pivotal role in helping to raise the profile of Kingcombe Meadows when it first went up for auction in 1987\, ultimately leading to the successful purchase of the nature reserve by Dorset Wildlife Trust. Jim has a wealth of knowledge\, having studied botany at university\, followed by a successful career which led him to work for organisations including English Nature. Jim is now a trustee of Dorset Wildlife Trust and spends time out with many other groups including National Trust and the Dorset Flora Group.

SUMMARY:A Noise Annoys - Jude Simpson
DESCRIPTION:“A Noise Annoys” is a poetry show for all the senses!  It features rhymes\, noises\, songs\, surprises and lots of audience interaction.  Bursting with joyful humour and witty wordplay\, Jude takes the audience on a mind-bending journey through the sounds of language and the language of sounds.  There is lots of joy\, a healthy dose of nonsense\, and a few heartfelt moments of beautiful hush. \n“Jude Simpson is funny\, sharp\, emotional in her work and is a terrific performer” – Michael Rosen \nUsing poems\, puns\, tongue-twisters\, quirky props and a trusty guitar\, Jude finds the joy and annoyance in the things we hear\, asking:  Is it a noise that’s annoying\, or the person making it?  Do pingers ever ding?  If you had a pet badger\, what would you call it?  This show will engage children with the spoken and written word\, and leave them full of joy at the possibilities of language. \nJude Simpson writes and performs joyful comedy\, combining quirky observational humour with poetry\, wordplay and song.  The result is a warm\, witty and uplifting act\, with wide appeal and a strong feel-good factor. \nAn established performer for adults\, Jude more recently began writing for children. “A Noise Annoys” is her first family show.  She has also written a school musical\, delivers educational workshops\, and is published in various children’s poetry magazines/anthologies. \nJude has performed at the Edinburgh Festival\, Glastonbury\, Greenbelt\, Big Church\, many literature festivals\, cabaret and comedy clubs.  She has won three national poetry slams\, and her work has been featured on Radio 2\, 4 and 5\, and in Baby Cow’s “Slam Poets” on BBC3 TV. \nJude is Poet in Residence at her local branch of Homestart\, the family support charity.  She lives in a big house in East Anglia with lots of people and one dog.  www.judesimpson.co.uk @JudeSimpsonWords

SUMMARY:A Little Stand Up and A Little Sit Down - Chris Difford
DESCRIPTION:Chris Difford is a Grammy nominated and double Ivor Novello Award winning lyricist who has brought us characters and sketches from everyday life\, and has successfully turned the mundane into the beautiful\, the urbane into the exquisite\, for over 40 years. As part of the legendary Squeeze\, Chris has co-written some of the most enduring and best-loved songs of our time such as ‘Up The Junction’\, ‘Cool For Cats’ and ‘Labelled With Love’\, ‘Tempted’ and many others. \nChris sums up this solo tour in his own words…”Being on tour is something I really enjoy\, seeing people and being with people is part of my experience as a performer. I will be playing songs from the Squeeze catalogue and from the solo albums I have recorded over the last 23 years. My story is told through stand up and some sit down\, a trip back to my council estate in South London\, from my very first lyrical expression to the dressing rooms of this show. My new songs written with Boo Hewerdine tell a story of celebration\, 25 years writing lyrics and playing on stages big and small. A journey I look back on with great fondness and gratitude. \nI can’t wait to climb back on stage and perform\, although have been shy in the past I now find myself feasting on the here and now deep within the shell like of your ear. I will be joined on stage by Melvin Duffy on his pedal steel and together we will deliver an evening of warm and I hope funny stories. Melvin’s playing is outstanding and I feel so lucky to have him as my sideman\, he cries over the songs and makes them sound always amazing. \nThe show is not just a look back on 50 lyrical years\, it’s a journey that asks\, What Happened? What happened to all those years and mates I grew up with before I formed a band. I hope you enjoy this new show.”
