SUMMARY:Moments
DESCRIPTION:Celebrating over 13 years of working together\, the critically acclaimed team behind the making of international hits The Nature of Forgetting and BIRTH opens up their precious notebooks and share how their magic works. By doing so the magic seems more impressive\, more real and more magical. Weaving Katherine Graham\, Guillaume Pigé and Alex Judd’s personal stories of becoming parents and reaching mid-life with theatrical imagination\, they unpick their creative bond\, re-evaluate success and make a new show exploring time\, fatherhood and grief.\n\nUltimately\, Moments is about attentiveness to; magic in the making of new work; poetry in our everyday; moment-by-moment existence; life as we live it.\n\n‘I give it (grandfather’s watch) to you not that you may remember time\, but that you might forget it now and then for a moment and not spend all your breath trying to conquer it.’ William Faulkner\, The Sound and the Fury\n\nThe development of this new project is funded by Arts Council England\, co-commissioned by London International Mime Festival\, and supported by The Point Eastleigh\, Shoreditch Town Hall\, The Lowry Salford and University of York. It will take place over a number of months in 2023 and 2024.

SUMMARY:South West Really Useful Family History Show
DESCRIPTION:Dorset Family History Society is excited to announce they have been working in partnership with Devon Family History Society and the Family History Federation to host the South West Really Useful Family History Show at Kinson Community Centre  (Pelhams Park)\, Millhams Road\, Bournemouth\, BH10 7LH on Saturday 29th March 2025 from 10am until 4pm. \nDorset FHS has lined up a great range of exhibitors\, speakers & experts. With FREE entry\, FREE parking and refreshments available all day it promises to be a great event\, featuring: \nTalks: \n‘Making the most of your autosomal DNA matches’ at 10.30am & 1.30pm. A practical talk focusing on Ancestry DNA showing how to work with your matches to advance your family history research. \n‘A to Z of Family History – an alphabetical journey through less well-known sources’ at 12noon & 3pm. When tracing a family tree the temptation is to use the more well-known sources usually available online via the major providers\, but this presentation introduces a variety of less known resources. \nTalk attendance is limited (a small fee will apply) and will be allocated on a first come first served basis at the event. \nMeet the Experts: \nOn the day reserve a free slot to meet our Experts to assist with :- \n‘Dating Photographs’ so bring along old family photos for help with dating them. \n‘Exploring Your DNA’ Between talks meet our speaker to get advice on your own DNA journey. \n‘Palaeography – reading old Wills’ Tips for looking at old handwriting and assistance with deciphering old Wills. Bring along old documents to get some guidance. \n‘General Family History Research’ Researchers from Family History Societies will be available for advice\, guidance & general help with research challenges. \nExhibitors: \nThere will be a range of exhibitors present from neighbouring Family History Societies\, commercial organisations who provide goods & services of interest to family historians\, and local history societies. \nAn updated full list of exhibitors can be found on our website \nwww.dorsetfhs.org.uk/events-activities/family-history-day \nPlease note Treetops Research Centre will be closed to visitors on 29th March as all Dorset FHS’s volunteers will be at the South West Really Useful Family History Show!

SUMMARY:Quimantú & Palida Choir The Surtierra Tour: When Music is Home
DESCRIPTION:In a unique project developed with Artsreach\, the iconic Anglo-Chilean band Quimantú is collaborating with the singers of Palida Choir to perform the Misa de los Mineros\, ‘The Miners’ Mass’\, composed by Mauricio Venegas-Astorga.\n\nFive decades ago Mauricio escaped from the Pinochet dictatorship in Chile and made the UK his home.\n\nToday\, through their Surtierra Project\, the band he founded seeks to break the stigmas associated with immigration caused by war\, persecution\, or poverty.\n\nThe concerts will result from workshops and rehearsals with local choirs in Dorset\, and will be\n\na tribute to those forced to leave their homeland\, often with sorrow.\n\nIn this context\, music takes on a profound meaning: healing\, uniting\, rooting\, and building community.\n\nThe Misa de los Mineros is “a captivating masterpiece that weaves the traditional with the contemporary through the beauty of heartfelt performances and arrangements”\n\nFelipe Arévalo (Universal Music)
