SUMMARY:VINTAGE Theare in Child Okeford
DESCRIPTION:Child Okeford’s own theatre group\, COMPACT\, have gathered together local talent to present the premiere of the new play “Vintage”. \nThis full-length drama is a new and exciting undertaking for COMPACT\, and a very community focused enterprise. The play’s authors and the entire cast are village residents. The support crew from director through stage manager and lighting technician to backstage hands and poster design all hail from within five miles of the village centre. \n“Vintage” tells the story of three long serving charity shop volunteers and what happens when a teenager arrives at the shop to serve a Community Service Order. When threatened with closure\, they each discover what the shop really means to them and each other. Although primarily a drama\, “Vintage” is not without its comedic moments\, and promises to be a hugely entertaining evening. \nThe drama deals with some difficult subjects\, such as loss\, grief\, and the importance of friendship. It will appeal to audiences over the age of sixteen. \nPerformances are at 7:30 pm on the 18th and 19th October 2024. \nTickets are £10 each and are available from The Village Shop in Child Okeford or from Richard Hewitt at rik.hewitt(a)outlook.com or tel 01258 861763

SUMMARY:CHRISTMAS FAYRE
DESCRIPTION:Shillingstone will once again be welcoming Father Christmas and his ever- helpful Elves to the festively decorated Portman Hall on Sunday 24th November during our ever-popular annual Christmas Fayre.  Our special guest will be assisted by  committee member Ann Povey\, who will be donning her Elf uniform to act as the ‘Special Local Elf of the Day’ to oversee proceedings and to help Father Christmas hand out gift to the children. (She will also be making sure that the roof of the hall is clear for the reindeer to park the invisible magical sleigh on).\n\n \n\nThe event which is on from 12 noon until 4pm\, will also be hosting various Crafters and Gift Makers who will be there to offer a range of gorgeous goodies to suit all your Christmas needs. They\, like the real Elves in the North Pole\, have been busy all year round preparing their wares. While perusing the stalls\, you can take part in our brilliant main raffle or try to win a delicious Christmas Hamper. There will be the usual Treasure Hunt to find which mischievous Elf is hiding the Treasure this year\, as well a chance to adopt a lonely and sad Teddy Bear looking for a new and loving home. \n\nWhile you ponder which gifts to buy\, why not treat yourself to coffee and cake\, or maybe a light lunch as you soak up the festive atmosphere.  A free activity table will be provided for the excited children to enjoy as parents and grandparents catch up with friends while they await the results of the raffle.\n\nThe funds raised from the Christmas Fayre will be going towards the cost of resurfacing our much used car park\, so if you are planning on joining us\, we thank you in advance. If you require any information\, please call Kay Ridout on 01258 861345 / email kayrunyard@aol.com \n\n
