DESCRIPTION:Held in the Courtyard and Gardens (open to the public) of the lovely 15th C Manor in Poyntington\, a small village just north of Sherborne\, we have over 30 stalls from local artisans & villagers\, including our renowned plant and cake stalls\, and an Art Fair for you to browse.  Sharandy’s Birds of Prey (11-2pm)\, a Dog Show (registration 1-145pm\, show 2pm)\, Duck Races (11.30-1.30)\, live music\, a Café\, BBQ\, & Laycock Cider Bar with panini and pizza will keep you entertained\, fed and watered!  This is a charitable event in aid of our village church and hall and two local charities\, The Rendez-vous\,\, and Sherborne Food Bank.

SUMMARY:Stonehenge - we need to talk
DESCRIPTION:Stonehenge is a world-famous monument\, the greatest achievement of our prehistoric ancestors. It has been the subject of investigation and speculation for centuries and\, while science has provided some answers\, there is much that remains enigmatic. \nFollowing on from our very successful day in the Autumn\, which concentrated on Stonehenge itself\, we are now going to turn our attention to its surrounding landscape. Stonehenge is just one part (albeit the focus) of a complex of prehistoric monuments\, some of which pre-date it\, others of which demonstrate Stonehenge’s power well into the Bronze Age. This day will involve three experts who will look at the landscape through differing eyes: \nJulian Richards is an archaeologist who has studied Stonehenge and its landscapes for over 40 years\, conducting the first major survey of the Stonehenge Environs in the 1980s. Julian will examine how our understanding of the landscape has developed over the past three centuries. \nDr Mike Allen is a leading environmental archaeologist who has extensively researched the prehistoric landscape of Wessex. Mike will examine the evidence for landscape change from the post-glacial period onwards and why the environment may have determined the location for some of our most spectacular complexes of Neolithic monuments. \nLuke Winter is one of the country’s leading experimental archaeologists. Responsible for the design and build of the Neolithic houses at the Stonehenge Visitor centre\, Luke will examine the landscape from a prehistoric resource viewpoint\, examining the ways in which it provided for everyday life. \nAfter each presentation there will be an opportunity for questions and discussion and the remainder of the day will allow the opportunity to explore wider issues. This is the chance to ask all those questions about Stonehenge that you have always wanted to ask… \nThe course starts with registration at 10.00am and will finish at 4.00 pm. Tea/coffee will be provided throughout the day. Lunch is not provided and there are no shops or food outlets nearby so please bring a packed lunch. Lunchtime will give an opportunity to explore Springhead’s beautiful gardens. DESCRIPTION:Idyllic Hatch House in the heart of the Wiltshire countryside\, by the kind permission of Sir Henry and Lady Rumbold\, will once again hold its annual Open Garden on Saturday 10th September. This is a great event for all the family and a chance to see the 17th Century walled Dutch garden with amazing views over the Vale of Wardour. Opening slightly earlier than previously\, there will be a bbq for the first time as well as traditional cream teas and a wide variety of stalls to browse with cakes\, books\, gifts and collectables. Lady Rumbold & Mrs Vernon’s‎ famous clothes stall is always packed with amazing finds\, it’s a magnet for bargain hunters. All proceeds will again go to the Salisbury Hospice Charity. Over the years this event has raised thousands of pounds to help the charity continue its valuable work.
