DESCRIPTION:Our increasingly popular Craft Fairs with Afternoon Tea at Sixpenny Handley Village Hall continue on Saturday 27 August from 11.00 am to 2.00 pm. \nThere will be various arts\, crafts and homemade produce stalls\, including wood turned products\, jewellery\, bags\, cards and many more. There will also be a spinning demonstration by our resident village crafter where you can learn how to spin simply using a stick! Children and adults will also have a chance to have a go at using a spindle. \nTo accompany your pot of tea or mug of coffee\, there will be a variety of freshly made sandwiches\, scones with jam and cream (or cream and jam if you prefer!) plus an array of delicious homemade cakes. \nWe are a friendly bunch of volunteers who are running this free event for all the family to raise funds for our village hall. So\, if you’re looking for something to do for a couple of hours on 27 August why not come along and join in the fun; we look forward to welcoming you to our hall. There’s plenty of parking and we are keeping our fingers crossed that the sun will shine so that you can enjoy your tea outside. \nWe are intending to continue to run these events monthly so if you are interested in having a table at a future event\, please do get in touch. Opening slightly earlier than previously\, there will be a bbq for the first time as well as traditional cream teas and a wide variety of stalls to browse with cakes\, books\, gifts and collectables. Lady Rumbold & Mrs Vernon’s‎ famous clothes stall is always packed with amazing finds\, it’s a magnet for bargain hunters. All proceeds will again go to the Salisbury Hospice Charity. Over the years this event has raised thousands of pounds to help the charity continue its valuable work.

DESCRIPTION:At the evenings gets colder\, Oborne Village Hall has invited author Wolfgang Grulke to warm us up with tales of the tropical South Pacific. Wolfgang is well known for his award-wining books on the subject of his fossil collection that has been visited by many locals. Now\, he has turned his attention to the islands of the South Pacific – specifically to the myriad of local cultures and myths\, and how these are celebrated in festivals\, using spectacular adornments – highly valued by tribal art collectors worldwide. \nTheir cultures were shaped over centuries by Chinese\, Arab and Malay traders\, European missionaries and soldiers fighting the ‘War in the Pacific’ on their lands. \n“ As my wife and I explored and dived the remote islands of the South Seas\, we would witness some of the most diverse reefs on the planet\, meet people who spoke more than 1000 languages\, and listen to tribal elders who remembered the taste of human flesh”\, explains Wolfgang\, “Normally\, when we think of jewellery\, we think of gold and precious stones\, but on these islands they do not have access to metals and precious stones\, so they have crafted the most wonderful adornments solely from the natural materials around them. My new book Adorned by Nature tells that story and our adventures in researching the book”.

DESCRIPTION:On Saturday 2nd August I am hosting a Charity Auction and Preloved Fashions Cat Walk show\, with a Wedding feature\, at The Tithe Barn\, Hinton St Mary\nThe evening is a ticketed event ( tickets available from 1855 \, The Emporium and by email to me) and will include:-\n\nA Dorset Deluxe grazing supper from Black Cat Catering\, with a free glass of fizz\nA bar and live music and a DJ throughout the evening\nA preloved Fashions Catwalk show\, with all outfits from the Pre loved Boutique and Dapper Chaps in town with a Wedding feature of some of the stunning wedding dresses and suits they have been donated\nFollowed by a Dorset dessert (Brownies and Berries)\nThen a Charity Auction of Lots donated by local businesses. ( these will include a months subscription to The Hinton Workspace\, A Dorset Delights food hamper\,  a Beautiful Dorset pamper hamper and a Dorset Tipples\, drinks hamper ( plus anything else I can persuade our wonderful local business to donate…)\nAll the models are local volunteers from the community shops\, The Girl Guides and a great model friend of mine. The Hair and Make up for the models is all being done for free by local Hair and Make up artists\nMost of the outfits will be for sale on the evening.\nAll the profits from the Evening will be donated to Stur Action ( the Sturminster Newton Community benefit society) and Home Start Blackmore Vale
